Odi-Meji (Idi-Meji) is the healer for all the other Odus in the pantheon. Before Olodumare sent each Odu to Orunmila in Aye, He gave them each specific powers and functions that they all specialize in. It is these functions that they must carry out through Orunmila whenever he calls on them as instructed by 0lodumare.

Before Odi-Meji came to Ile-Aye, people died of their injuries because there was no medicine or cure for any illness, disease, or infection within and outside the body. When any injury occurs especially on the body, the injury will continue to spread all over until it covers the whole body and death arrives. This made Orunmila cry out to Olodumare saying the people come to me for help in healing their wounds and sicknesses but I'm helpless because l don't know what to do. Even my own son Oloofin is on the verge of death. I have called Eji Ogbe, Oyeku Meji, Iwori Meji and they say they cannot do it because you gave them a different Ase. Olodumare now summoned Odi-Meji with all the instruction on healing and curing of all types of ailments and diseases. So, Odi-Meji told Orunmila to look for a herbal leaf called Idi, Cowrie (Cowry) Shell. When Orunmila brought the items, he was instructed to grind it all together and thumbprint the sign of Odi-Meji on the powder and he was also given the prayer of Odi-Meji. It is this powder that Orunmila put on wounds and lacerations. It started healing the people because the open wounds they carry about began to close up and heal and when the powder is taken by mouth for inner diseases the people were relieved and healed.

In Yorubaland, ODI literarily means CLOSE or to CLOSE. Aboru Aboye nile Ifa!
