Seifu A.S. Umar Sharif, MA has been a practitioner and teacher of the Afro Asian Martial and Healing Arts for over five decades. He is Tobi Alakoso (Grand Master) of the Me'je Oruka System and a State Certified Martial Arts Instructor for the Maricopa County Community College District in Phoenix Arizona. Seifu Sharif has studied and traveled in China, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Currently retired, he was Coordinator of the Afro-Asian Studies component of the PVCC Complementary Health Care Program at Paradise Valley Community College. In addition to the title seifu (teacher), he was also given the name Xia` Xue' Gong (to learn from a master) by his teacher and students while traveling, studying, and teaching in China.
Seifu Sharif is also an Babalawo (high priest) in the West African Tradition of IFA. In the Afrocentric System of Me'je Oruka, he is referred to as Tobi Alakoso (Grand Master) as the Founder of Me'je Oruka ti Ogun ati Iwosan Ogbon Elegbe (Seven Circles Martial and Healing Arts Association).
Seifu Sharif has studied and trained with several noted martial arts practitioners and Masters. He spent three years studying Northern-Southern Shaolin Kung Fu with his primary teacher GrandMaster Alan Lee and seven years with Senior Instructor George Hudson (Abdur-Rashed AbdelMuquaddim).
